WHEN ANGELS CRY - THE FORGOTTEN CHILDREN

In Sydney, Australia, the new dawn did not present its usual radiant sunlit day. Instead, it brought forth an unusual gray somberness that exuded irrevocable loss. “I am Zara. I was murdered at age seven”. God was watching! “I am Maisy. I was murdered at age six”. God was watching! “I am Libby. I was murdered at age five”. God was watching! “I am Alex. I was murdered at age seven”. God was watching! “I am Mia. I held my twin sister, Maisy’s, hand when she took her last breath. I was there when all my sisters died. I was murdered at age six. I wanted a fair chance to grow up and experience adulthood, marriage, and children of my own who would have been loved properly”. God was watching! The ominous sky hung low, overburdened with grief and sorrow. Dark clouds agonizingly drifted apart as if reluctantly separating the dead from the living, and a fine drizzle began to fall, as Angels began to cry. I decide when Angels cry!

DANCING WITH THE DEVIL - BREAKING CHAINS OF CHILDHOOD SEXUAL ABUSE

Feeling again like I had no place to call ‘Home’, it was confirmed, when after four months I was flung out of the Mental Health Unit back into the gutters of the unknown, in the form of a rundown motel swarming with underhanded deals changing hands between dealers and prostitutes. The aura emanating from every concrete brick, desperately struggling to hold up a crumbling foundation oozing with corrupt-laden deception and dark energies, sent chills down my spine as I stared numbly at graffiti and dirty windows. Resistance overruled my inner world to the point of having a physical reaction. With difficulty, I swallowed down the bitter taste that had risen in my throat, restricting my airway. My head was spinning, and my palms were sweaty. When I turned the key in the door and flung it open, I almost expected the Mafia to be sitting there, collaborating and smoking cigars. My mind had begun shutting down. Dissociative Disorder swiftly moved in, trying to protect any remaining remnant of my essence. I vaguely scanned the interior, with intense difficulty, as I was robbed of my vision. For a brief moment, the world paused, and the Disorder shackled me!

RESUSCITATE

Shelby's heart dropped into her stomach with a thud of disappointment, and she covered up her pain with a snigger. Mr Carter looked at her questioningly, "Is something funny, Shelby?". She stared down at her sneakers without laces and spoke in a sad voice, "You really don't get it, do you, Sir?". Mr Carter remained silent, and Shelby became disconsolate, hollering, "Interpersonal skills mean shit in the Projects! There are no laws to protect children of poverty and injustice, and there definitely is no hope of survival if your focus is on finding filters that might make this whole fucked up existence more comfortable for those not living it!". Mr Carter hastily stated, "Shelby, I can have a meeting with your parents! We can all work together, in your best interest!". Shelby replied, in a voice void of feeling or emotion, "Parents? Best interest? My parents don't have time for me, and survival does not give a shit about anyone's best interest, Sir. You do what you have to do to see another day.".

REVIEWS

WHERE THE MIND HIDES...

DANCING WITH THE DEVIL by Lee-ann Suddick is a book that anyone who wants to understand the damage done by child abuse and mental illness, should read. In such cases as these, mental illness is a coping mechanismA way of dealing with the mental anguish that torments the victim. Ms Suddick has penned a book that is hard to put down. It is like it is a mirror in some ways and we can see some parts of ourselves reflected in its depths. It, in my opinion, is a book about humanity and resilience, in the face of what must feel like impossible odds. Though "Electra" sinks into an emotional mire, where she almost drowns in her own pain, there is still the sense of how special she is. She is brave and loving, loyal and intelligent. No one should have to have endured the depths of pain described in this book. No wonder that the mind invents "bolt holes" to escape into. Alongside all the pain, there are golden moments. Most of those spent with her twin Aurora, and with her children. There is also Ms Suddick's lyrical prose and diamond glimpses into the good parts of memory, about growing up in South Africa. I highly recommend this book to all.

RESUSCITATE by Lee-ann Suddick is a wonderful book. The plot is a great one, but I won't spoil it by giving away too many details. I will just say that readers should be prepared to go through the whole gamut of emotions when reading this book. Ms Suddick is very in-tune with the "human condition" and writes with great empathy for the folk who people the pages of this masterful book. I highly recommend this book to all readers, and I can assure you that you won't be disappointed.

RESUSCITATE...

A powerful story of hope

Loved the story and how Lee-ann Suddick intertwined two different traumas of two very different people. The connection between these two people is heart-warming - I loved it and would highly recommend it. I couldn't put the book down.

DANCING WITH THE DEVIL - BREAKING CHAINS OF CHILDHOOD SEXUAL ABUSE...Walls confining Angels with broken wings...

Having suffered sexual child and more abuse from family members, the book describes a fictional autobiographical journey through the hell of mental illness, trials and tribulations, and finally, redemption and salvation. If society is to confront this growing dis-ease, then there is no better way than to read this book. When Electra screams, we scream, when she feels unloved, we feel unlovable, and when her heart is scarred, our heart is scarred...

A disturbingly beautiful read educating us on what we must do as humanity to avoid calamity.

EMOTIONAL AND COMPELLING...

WHEN ANGELS CRY - THE FORGOTTEN CHILDREN by Lee-ann Suddick is a great, although disturbing, read. A story of tragedy and struggle shown through the eyes of a number of different, interwoven characters. The themes are often disturbing, but hope always seems to be there, floating just out of reach, however. This book is a very emotional and compelling journey into both light and dark. It touches on murder, child abuse and other of the worse types of human behaviour. That is the dark side of the book. On the light side of the book there is love and sisterhood. Love is the light that shines through the layers of darkness. The author has suffered throughout her own life and her struggle is what she draws on when writing this book. I recommend this book to all readers. Expect to be touched and humbled by the reading of it.
